About the Club
About the Club
Fergusson River Club (FRC) is a student-led platform at Fergusson College, Pune, where young people from every department come together around a shared cause, the rivers and ecology of the city they live in. It is one of YOGI's longest-running youth engagements, built on a simple belief: that a river is best understood by those willing to walk beside it.
FRC brings students out of the classroom and to the water's edge, turning ecological concern into real experience, through learning, walks, audits, community engagement, and action.
Its guiding call is simple: Educate, Unite, Conserve.
Why It Matters
Why It Matters
Cities and rivers are drifting apart. Young people grow up beside waterways they have never truly seen, learning about ecology as a subject in a textbook rather than a living system they belong to. And too often, environmental action stays confined to those studying the sciences.
FRC exists to close that distance. By bringing together students from every discipline, arts, commerce, science, and beyond, on the common ground of ecological concern, it turns awareness into ownership, and produces young citizens who leave with both ecological literacy and the confidence that they can act.

Its annual flagship is the Community Engagement Programme (CEP), a sustained, experiential journey that any Fergusson student can join, no prior background in ecology required, only curiosity and care.

Ganesh mandals reached through Blossoms to Blessings
The Community Engagement Programme moves students through a full journey, from understanding rivers, to engaging with them directly, to acting and reflecting. Over a single season, students dissect the hidden toxins in everyday products, test water with their own hands, walk riverbanks, sit with river-dependent communities, compost tonnes of festival Nirmalya, and finally carry their learning into the streets through a rally and a Youth for Rivers Summit. What runs through it all is a shift from participation to ownership, students who arrive as learners and leave as leaders.
